![]() Sifu Daniel ShioiLater in the eighties, Daniel trained in Shotokan under Kenneth Funakoshi (Karate Association of Hawaii, Manoa Branch). Daniel earned his way up through the ranks very quickly and unfortunately at the end of four years, training under Sensei Funakoshi, Sensei had closed the Manoa branch (Daniel had earned a Brown Belt during this time). Daniel also began to train in Boxing at Kalakaua Gym. While sparring in the ring, he caught the eye of Al Ramirez. He (Al) assisted him by being his boxing trainer. He continued to train in Boxing for about six years. Then in the nineties, Daniel tried another Martial Art that was gaining popularity. He began training under Paul Ano, learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He also joined a Jiu-Jitsu Club in Kaneohe at that time. Later he switched over to Nova Uniao (another Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school) and trained there under John Lewis. Daniel also trained 6 and 1/2 years with "San Sei Bu", a school headed by one of Professor Edmund Louis' black belts. After spending many years training in various styles, Daniel joined Kempo Unlimited, under Sifu Tommy Lam. He credits this school with refining his Kickboxing and Jiu-Jitsu skills. And finally Daniel has found his home school under Grand Master George Iversen of Hawaiian Kajukenbo Association. He successfully earned his Black belt in Kajukenbo, training directly under Grand Master Iversen. Iversen Understood Daniel's goals and desire to open a school, and he supported Daniel's ambition and decision to open his own school. Although Daniel has trained with many different schools, and holds two Black Belt ranks, two Brown Belt ranks and many more belt ranks from various Schools and styles. He still considers Kajukenbo as his Base system. With over thirty years of Martial Arts experience Daniel Shioi is without a doubt, a man with the wisdom and abilities to teach Martial Arts with his own personal touch. "Shioi's Kajukenbo System" |
